Question 4: Digital Etiquette

Updated: Jan 6, 2021

Digital etiquette, as it is often referred to, is a simple collection of behavioural guidelines that must be followed to guarantee that the internet is safer for all people.

Here are 10 examples of bad etiquette:

Don’t Spam - This ensures that irritating and repeating messages must not be sent electronically.

Don’t steal other people’s identity - It is illegal to take people's identities on social media because it is a breach of human rights and can do some harm.

Don’t type in CAPS - Do not type in capital letters when you type something because it is similar to yelling because it is disrespectful.

Don’t use offensive language - Depending on the sort of people you speak with, if you use strong words, you might offend a person.

Texting while carrying on conversations - This is a bad etiquette not that it is rude, but because you do not pay any attention to the individual and it contributes to the individual getting some bad feedback about you.

Don’t ‘reply-all’ for a personal conversation - Respond all is where you send a message to each person in your list if you only intended to send it to one individual.

Using technology for bullying or similar behaviours - This is known as cyberbullying, but it is a little close to aggressive language, since cyberbullying is when you use social media to threaten others.

Hacking - Accessing a restricted physical space or information without permission.

Flaming - Attacking someone verbally online.

Trolling - Starting quarrels and upsetting people on the internet.
